Brick - directed by Rian Johnson
Here’s a good movie to watch if you like film noirs set in modern times, thrillers, and/or Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The noir language & metaphors in the dialogue is pretty cool to listen to - if sometimes difficult to follow (subtitles, anyone?). The soundtrack is wonderfully classy all the way, with bits of jazz, slight rock… no pop! No doubt, Gordon-Levitt was great in this role; probably one of my favorite works from him yet. There were also some moments in the film (camera-wise) where I felt that Gordon-Levitt’s character Brendan reminded me of Spike Spiegel. Well, lo and behold! Apparently, director Johnson used Cowboy Bebop as one of his references for visualizing Brick. Geez, this film can’t get any more awesome…!
